Line 1 by artist Rogier Arents
RIGA - Rixc - ends: september 25
The exhibition presents Riga through the lens of a slit-scan camera — a technique that captures a single narrow strip of the visual field continuously over time rather than a conventional frozen frame, producing images where a moving subject appears stretched, layered, or doubled across the picture. For this work, the artist rode tram line 1 from Imanta to Jugla, recording the passing city through the device and turning an ordinary daily commute into a document of the technique's effect on perception. The results read as surreal, hybrid images in which movement, duration, and the tram's fixed viewpoint collapse into a single continuous plane, closer to a technical trace of the journey than a photograph of it. It's a small, single-gallery show, but a good fit for the kind of quiet technical experimentation RIXC's gallery space regularly hosts between its bigger festival years. The show runs through 25 September, so it's a genuine September entry rather than a carryover.
