RIXC Art Science Festival 2026: Climate Imagination
Riga - National Library of Latvia, 20-22 October
RIXC's 2026 festival takes Climate Imagination as its organising theme, treating it as a field where artistic practice, scientific research, and environmental data intersect. The three-day programme brings together an international exhibition, the first Baltic Science and Technology Studies conference-meeting, a workshop hosted by the European Media Art Platform, and a series of live performances. Festival directors Rasa Šmite and Raitis Šmits continue their long-running collaboration with the Immersive Art Space at Zurich University of the Arts, developing new work under the Swiss-funded Immersion Studies for Climate Experiences research project. The 2026 edition follows last year's Plants Intelligence, which paired AI models trained on herbarium specimens with speculative work on plant cognition, produced with a Swiss research consortium. As in previous years, the programme draws artists from across Europe, South America, and Asia into direct exchange with climate scientists. A full artist list and the exact exhibition dates within the festival window haven't been published yet — worth checking RIXC's site again closer to the date.
